Explain the name, please.

We get asked about our name a lot.  And we have to admit, it is a bit of a tongue twister, and not the easiest to spell, but hey, we like to challenge people!  Landis is in reference to Bob Landis, the founder of Landis Department Store.  After owning and running Landis Department Store for decades, Bob decided that it was time to pass the reigns to someone else.

Enter Chris Wolfus, Bob's daughter's sorority sister, Betty Sue Landis, with a business degree from UCLA and the desire to maintain the Landis name on Larchmont Blvd.  As Landis' Labyrinth is the offspring of Landis General Store, we chose to keep the tradition going and kept the name in.

As for Labyrinth, we absolutely believe that we have enough toys in our shops to make shopping around feel like a labyrinth... you won't get lost completely but you can easily spend all day just wandering around, but that, plus the notable fact that Landis' Labyrinth has some snazzy alliteration going on, isn't the real origin of the name.  Devoney, despite her many fantastic qualities, had never seen the movie Labyrinth, starring David Bowie, something Landis' Labyrinth co-founder Timothy was determined to rectify.  They then realized that it would make a great name for the shop, and that's how Landis' Labyrinth got its name.
